Our society is not much like those of the early Christians. Their lives were governed by natural light, the turn of the seasons, the speed of walking feet; we no longer live with these limits. As a result, we seem to be in danger of losing our ability to be patient. Yet it is the act of waiting that enables us to make room in our hearts and in our lives for Christ to enter. How can we foster patience in a world in which cooking shows make whole meals in half an hour, entire narrative arcs consume just twenty minutes (two hours for a really complicated story line), and we have to restrain ourselves from reading email at stoplights in an effort not to “waste time”? Join Jamie McArdle at 10:20 in the Barn for a conversation about our struggles with the pace of modern life and strategies for slowing down and setting aside – not “wasting” – time during this season of reverent waiting.
This is our last Sunday morning adult formation of 2015 — 12/20 is cake and conversation with Bud, and there is no Sunday School on 12/27. Stay tuned for the spring 2016 lineup!
