News from The Labyrinth Guild

For over 4,000 years, people have walked labyrinths as a spiritual, contemplative exercise. After experiencing the power of a labyrinth walk on our Women’s Retreat last May, a group of women came together to discuss the idea of constructing a labyrinth at St. Peter’s near the new building. With a go-ahead from the Vestry to begin exploration of location, cost, and other logistical matters, The Labyrinth Guild was born.

Over the course of a few meetings and many e-mails, we have done some background research and shared information. On Saturday, February 11, seven hearty souls braved a snowy forecast and, fortified by a wonderful breakfast, toured three local labyrinths in Phoenixville, West Chester and Westtown. We walked the labyrinths, took notes and photos, shared stories and laughs, and came away with some definite ideas of what would – and definitely would not – work at St. Peter’s.

Our next steps are for a few Guild members to visit additional local labyrinths and, once armed with all of our collected information, to begin formulating a plan to present to the Vestry.

This group will need the support and time of additional members. Whether you want to help us build the concept or build the labyrinth itself or if you’re just curious what a labyrinth is, please consider joining this effort.
