For over three hundred years people have climbed this high hill
within the Great Valley seeking God in this truly historic place. The means of travel have changed,
but the purpose of the journey, and what seekers have found here, have not. May you find God here and be
found by Him.

Home of the Sparrow
The mission of the Home of the Sparrow is to provide housing and support services to homeless women who want to improve their lives and become self-sufficient.
Many of the women we serve have used up yesterday’s reserves of money and tomorrow’s reserves of optimism. Seeing them rebuild these reserves and optimism is awe inspiring. Please help us continue to help these women and their families grow from homelessness to self-sufficiency — Ginny Parry, Home of the Sparrow Volunteer Coordinator
Home of the Sparrow House, West Chester, PAThe Home of the Sparrow:
Serves homeless women regardless of religion or race, who are 18 years of age or older and may be single women or mothers with children.
Is the only local program for the homeless that combines intensive case management with housing in a group environment, offers consistent daily interaction with support staff, and is augmented by a comprehensive life skills training course.
Operates two houses in West Chester that accommodate nine families for up to 9 months.
Home of the Sparrow does a great service for women in need, and I can attest to that. Since I have been here, I have found gainful employment, bought a car, and am on my way to finding my own place to live, all in a matter of just a few months—Transitional Housing Program Resident
Home of the Sparrow House, West Chester, PAVolunteer Opportunities
Grocery Deliveries – When women arrive at Home of the Sparrow, they are exhausted, penniless, and desperate to find housing and food for their children. By providing an initial grocery order and a home-cooked meal for each family, St. Peter’s volunteers remove a tremendous burden from these women.
Time commitment: 2 or 3 weekday hours once or twice a year.
Skills required: None!
Safety Inspections – Imagine the challenge of keeping a house safe for children ranging in age from infancy to 12 years. St. Peter’s volunteers help by conducting monthly inspections, identifying problem areas, and recommending improvements. This is a wonderful opportunity for moms who have a vigilant eye for child safety issues.
Time commitment: 2 or 3 weekday hours several times a year.
Skills required: None!
Other Opportunities – St. Peter’s involvement with Home of the Sparrow is not limited to grocery deliveries and safety inspections! Parishioners have helped renovate and decorate the houses, held classes in cooking and credit card management, driven residents to appointments, provided babysitting, and made minor household repairs. If you have a special skill or interest, consider helping out—the possibilities are endless.
