Advent is a season of joyful anticipation. But in the buildup to creating the “perfect Christmas,” we can lose all sense of both time and perspective. Why do we Save Advent?
- To make room for the cultural and faith-based events and traditions that matter most.
- To be able to observe (both in the sense of watching it all happen and in the sense of being a participant in the happening) an important time in our own and our family’s life and in the life of the church that can otherwise get lost in the rush to Christmas.
- To be able to be joyful at a time when impatience and shopping rage are rampant.
In the Save Advent discussion series, we’ll talk about the hows and whys of creating a mindful and intentional observance. We’ll talk about the cultural pressures that sometimes feel overwhelming, as well as the inverse pressure we may feel to be a more perfect Christian during this first season of the church year. We’ll share thoughts on “Christmas creep” and how to embrace or resist it,depending upon our own needs. Join Jamie McArdle and Marsha Wirtel to share tricks and tips to help Save Advent for your family at 7PM in the historic church on November 4, 11, and 18.
