The 'Procession of the Pipes'

Sunday, April 27, 2003 was a big day in the 300 year history of St. Peter's Church in the Great Valley. Our beautiful new Bigelow organ had finally arrived by tractor-trailer from Utah the night before, and the literally thousands of component parts were ready to be unloaded so that the assembly experts could begin their work on Monday.

St. Peter's organ consultant, Jonathan Ambrosino, and tonal director, David Chambellin, discussed our new M.L. Bigelow Opus 30 pipe organ at the 10:15 a.m. Adult Forum. Then, at the conclusion of the 11:00 a.m. Eucharist, dozens of parishioners moved outside together and gathered at the truck which was now positioned to unload. Along with three members of the organ crew, everyone formed a 'Procession of the Pipes', carrying the parts of our wonderful new instrument into their new home. We give thanks that there were no accidents during the process, and all components were carefully staged within the sanctuary awaiting the assembly process.

Afterward everyone gathered in the Parish House for an informal pot-luck lunch, when folk had the opportunity to meet some of the craftsmen who created the organ.
