For over three hundred years people have climbed this high hill within the Great Valley seeking God in this truly historic place. The means of travel have changed, but the purpose of the journey, and what seekers have found here, have not. May you find God here and be found by Him.

NEWS YOU CAN USE

Always on the Calendar

  • The sermon is posted as it becomes available from the preacher.
  • Call Martha Johnson or Bruce Glenny (610-644-2261) if you would like to join the choirs this year. More information about the choirs, including rehearsal schedules, can be found via the Music Ministry page.
  • Adult Christian Education meets every Sunday from September through May in the Barn following the 9:00 a.m. service, from 10:10 until 10:50.
  • During the same time, children aged 4 through 12 meet for Sunday school in the Barn, and teens meet in the undercroft of the Church for youth-oriented Christian education discussions.
  • The St. Peter's Gathering of Men meets EACH Friday morning at 7:00 a.m. in the Parish House for a one-hour free-ranging discussion. All men are invited to participate.
  • The Gathering of Women, which meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 7:15 p.m., would like to extend a special invitation to those of you who are not comfortable driving at night. We're missing out on your company and have a band of willing chauffeurs to provide transportation. Please contact Susan Schriver at 610-935-5480 for more information or to arrange a ride. Please join us!
  • Eat your way to fellowship through Foyers dinners! Foyers dinners are small groups of parishioners, typically about 6-8, who meet periodically for dinner in order to get to know one another. Hosting of (potluck and relaxed) dinners rotates among members of the group. This is a great way for new members to get acquainted with "old-timers" in the parish, and for attendees of the various services to get to know one another. To sign up, email Jay Joyce or call him at 610-695-2798.
  • Join us on Wednesdays at noon for Brown Bag Bible Study in the Parish Hall. Bring your favorite translation of the Bible, if you have one (if not, we'll find a Bible for you), and together we'll unpack the scriptures for the following Sunday. Don't forget your bag lunch (drinks provided)! Newcomers are always welcome!
  • Every Thursday morning at 10:30, we gather for Intercessory Prayer in the Parish Hall, integrating the day's readings with the St. Peter's prayer list. We pray for special needs both in the Great Valley and the world, for our outreach efforts, for those who have requested our prayers, for the departed, and, with thanksgiving, for births, birthdays, and anniversaries. Join us in prayer that works - your presence really will make a difference!

Moms' Group

The St. Peter's Moms' Group is open to all moms, especially those looking for some daytime activities to engage in with their little ones or for a night out with "the girls" or with other couples. Activities change monthly, the focus is on being sociable and supporting one another in the combination three-ring circus/crisis management/incredible journey known as motherhood.
  • THE CHAMBER CHOIR PRESENTS THE ST. JOHN PASSION BY SCHUTZ

On Sunday, March 28 (Passion Sunday/Palm Sunday), at 4:00 P.M. in the Church, a service of Passion music by Baroque composer Heinrich Schütz will include his Passion According to St. John, sung in English in the remarkable translation by Peter Pears and Imogene Holst. The dramatic presentation will include Daniel Shapiro (tenor) as Evangelist, John Alston (bass) as Jesus, and Jason Hacker (tenor) as Pilate. The Chamber Choir of St. Peter's will take the parts of the crowd, high priest and soldiers. The Passion story has been set to music since the earliest days of the church, traditionally in plainchant. The setting by Schütz is part of a later tradition that is through-composed, with opening and closing choruses and original music for the characters.

The Chamber Choir of St. Peter’s will also present a group of Passiontide motets from the composer’s Cantiones Sacrae (1625). This remarkable collection of music for four voices on mostly biblical texts reveals of love of the Italian madrigal style, and an emotionally charged approach to motet style.

In a departure from our usual Evensong format, an ancient sung office – An Order of Worship for the Evening, which includes plainchant psalmody and canticles, silences, and hymns – will provide an ideal meditative beginning to this holiest of weeks in the church calendar. There will be child care in the Barn, and a reception follows. (Click here for more information.)
