Good Works, Inc. is a Christian home repair ministry located in Coatesville, Pennsylvania formed to assist economically disadvantaged homeowners in Chester County. By helping to make their homes warmer, safer and drier, hopelessness is replaced with the hope found in Jesus Christ. Services are provided at no cost to the homeowner, with volunteers - including a growing number of St. Peter's parishioners - doing the on-site work. This is St. Peter's report for March 12, 2005.
A Good Works Report for March 2005
by Roger ThorneSaturday, March 12th saw a small but loyal veteran group of St. Peter’s parishioners arriving early in Coatesville to carry on the work of making the homes of Mrs. Catherine Robinson and Mrs. Esther Johnson “warmer, safer and drier.”
The Robinson team, led by Hugh McLennan, comprised Chip Colvin, Brian Curtis, Susan Dickinson and her sons Mark and Greg, Grant Dovey, Dan Houston, and Elaine Thomas. They took on the ‘low-tech’ but nonetheless critical jobs of caulking, priming and painting the bedrooms, bathroom and kitchen as the home is readied for project completion.
The Johnson team, comprising Tom Brehm, Ken Fleisher, Roger Thorne, and Art Wrenn, continued, and finished, the technically-challenging job begun last month of replacing the old home’s central support beam. Mission safely accomplished!
The BIG NEWS is that, after 17 years in the same location near the Coatesville railroad station, the Good Works ministry has acquired a much larger property in Coatesville from which to coordinate and outfit its workdays to the community. Beginning April 9, 2005, the next workday in which St. Peter's volunteers will participate, all Second Saturday workdays from now on will meet at the new warehouse at the usual time of 8:45 a.m. Click here for explicit driving directions to the new warehouse. Do not show up at the usual place - the old warehouse will be abandoned, and you will be alone.
The next Good Works workday will be Saturday, April 9th. If you are interested in learning more about this ministry, click here.
