Just like Target, St. Peter’s is already thinking ahead to back-to-school shopping! Coming up, our annual Fill the Bus backpack campaign: empty backpacks with lists of school supplies will magically appear in the Common Room of the church, and over the coming weeks we’ll fill and return them. Thanks to the generosity of St. Peter’s parishioners, hundreds of less-advantaged kids over the years have started school with all the material things they need – and the knowledge that people care about their educational success.
This outreach event is a great way for us to live out, and live into, our mission to bring the love of Christ to the larger community. And so simple: one-stop shopping that can help a child walk into that first day of school with confidence and anticipation. How can we go deeper, help that confidence and anticipation grow into a commitment to and excitement about a lifetime of learning? Jay Joyce and the Outreach Commission have some ideas; contact Jay at email@example.com to learn more about what each of us can do to help kids overcome the obstacles their circumstances have thrown in their way.
