Grant Dovey and Tom Brehm  patiently install vinyl siding on 131 Congress

Today was our last day on the site. Many projects were completed by our team members in preparation for the group of 50 volunteers that were to descend on the site the following week according to Chuck Drumsta, our site manager. For lunch Chuck treated us all to pizza. It looked suspiciously like Sicilian, but here in Buffalo they call it “sheet” pizza.

An extensive cleanup was begun by several of us around 2:30, as all tools had to be removed since the house was not going to be worked on for several days. At 3:15, Habitat's Coordinator , “Buffalo Bob” Henderson, gathered us together on the porch and conducted what he called a "Hammer Ceremony" where we all stood in a circle, and as we passed a hammer from one person to another, had the opportunity of sharing how the week had changed/affected us. Then we were all given Habitat T-shirts.

In the evening, our men treated us to a cook out. There is nothing like hamburgers, hotdogs, and chicken cooked on an open grill. It was a real feast. After dinner people played whiffle ball and foot ball. Ron Talboy, president of Habitat for Humanity, Buffalo, and his wife Margaret, who had been invited for dinner, treated us to a video of  the dedication of last year’s Habitat project in which St. Peter’s was actively involved . It was wonderful.
